Good Friday 17th April 2009, a very wet early morning at first. Fifty pilgrims set off from St James Church for Hooda Hill to take part in the tradition of erecting a wooden cross on the hill for all to see on Good Friday. Prayers were led by Rev Peter Bowers with hymns “There is a green hill far away” and “When I survey the wondrous cross” were sung. Hot Cross Buns and tea were provided and served by Shirley Ashelford and Mavis Bluge in church for the returning pilgrims. A much smaller team took down the cross in the afternoon according to custom.
