Grow For Gold! - Don't forget Sat 18th April!

Swimbridge Vegetable & Produce Show and Green Market - 19th September 2009

Its time to start growing as local business Garden By Design is organising a Vegetable & Produce Show to be held in the Jubilee Hall on 19th September 2009, which is open to all who live in the  Swimbridge parish.

You don’t have to be a veg ‘expert’ or jam ‘guru’ to enter – it’s going to be a fun and inclusive event with classes for vegetables, produce (jams, cakes etc), arts & crafts and children/school entries.

We hope the show will encourage more of us to grow our own vegetables and beat the ‘credit crunch’ – lets munch the crunch! By growing your own veg you will not only be saving money - you will be putting fresh, tasty and healthy food on the table for your family.

There will be prizes for the winning entries and The ‘Dudley Elliott Best in Show Trophy’ will be presented for the best entry across all the classes. The trophy is named after Dudley Elliott the renowned butcher from Bishop’s Tawton who sadly passed away in December. He was a Swimbridge man as well as a champion of local food. A member of his family will be a judge and will present the Best in Show Trophy.

There will be a small entry fee and all proceeds will go towards the Jubilee Hall. Refreshments will be provided by the Jubilee Hall fundraising team.

Let us know your thoughts

Classes are still being drawn up. If you have any ideas for classes please let us know via the suggestion boxes in the Post Office and The Jack Russell Inn or email via the website

Veg Days

In the lead up to the show there will be two free Veg Days held in the Jubilee Hall to allow growers to get together and sell, swap or barter any surplus plants or seeds, as well as share knowledge on growing vegetables in the village. Refreshments will be provided by the Jubilee Hall fundraising team.

Green Market

On the 19th September alongside the Show will also be a Green Market, which will be a marketplace for local people to sell, swap or barter surplus crops and produce. Information stands will also attend including the South West Counties Allotment Association. There will be a small fee for a stall, which are available to villagers as well as growers/producers outside of the parish. All proceeds will go towards the Jubilee Hall.
