New Building for Swimbridge Primary School

SWIMBRIDGE primary school will soon have a new building which can be used for club meetings by pupils and community groups.

A planning application for a new "multi use building" submitted by the school's governors has been approved by NDDC.  The new building will  replace the old storage sheds on the school site.

The main school building, which was first occupied in 1866, has been extended and modified at various times since then.  It is a listed building in a conservation area.

The school has a breakfast club, which runs between 8am and 8.30am and an after-school club, which runs between 3.15pm and 5.30pm. The after-school activities include: films; games; art & craft; cookery; & gardening.

A spokesman said the school hoped to have the building ready for use by September. Local community groups will also be able to use the building out of school hours.  The building contract will now go out to tender.
