Swimbridge St James Church Stream Side Garden

by David Netherway

We have had some very encouraging news from the Lottery.

An application was made several weeks ago to the Changing Places, Community Spaces fund which is part of the National Lottery. The project to convert part of the churchyard between the public path and the stream into a community garden space has been accepted for possible funding.

We still have lots more work to do to secure the money for the garden, this includes getting Planning Permission for the project and Church Diocesan approval for the details but with local support and that of the local councillors which has been given I think we can confidently look forward to having a superb new facility for quiet enjoyment by both young and old in the village before too many more months are past.

The success of the bid will depend on being able to demonstrate community support and a long term commitment to keeping it up.

Swimbridge church is keen to see it happen, you have already said how much you would like to see some public space in our village.

Please be ready to volunteer to help with the work, fundraising and importantly at this stage letters or e-mails of support will make a difference.
